How we support heart patients
Visiting the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital
Cickers members make visits to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital throughout the year to meet with patients and hospital staff. For patients on the coronary care ward a visit from a former patient is an opportunity to talk about life after a heart condition.
Committee members atttend the first session of the rehabilitation course held at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where they explain the aim of the group and what the group can offer to recent heart patients. They also encourage new members to come to the monthly meetings where the emphasis is on enjoying a social evening with people who have had similar problems.
The Cickers Plaque
The Cickers Heart Support Group Founders wrote the words below, the result was a superb piece of stainless steel artwork that was presented by Cickers to the Coronary Care ward in 1992 and today still hangs on the wall outside of the ward.
June devised it,
Richard revised it,
Doris said ” that’s an idea”,
So in great contemplation,
Her great lineation,
Results in the plaque we have here.
Well Ken was delighted,
He got quite excited and said, “Ay our Doris that’s great,
I’ll whisk it away, by the end of the day,
I’ll produce your design on template.”
Well Rob being good said, “I’ll give you some wood,
That’ll make our new plaque look quite smart.”
So they gave it to Alan, to nurture and fashion,
And transfer to this great work of art.
Dennis got out his duster and with all he could muster,
He polished it hard ’till it shone,
Then with all of a flush, he got out his brush,
And painted the lettering on.
This plaque’s now complete,
It’s smart and discrete,
And ready to hang on the wall,
We hope that you like it,
We’re very delighted,
To present it to you from us all.
